Why I chose this book/diet and author interview:
Last week I talked about how excited I am to start the Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion program. I told you about the easy to follow process and how excited I am about it. I’ve learned that this book is about so much more than a diet. It’s about a lifestyle that can be lived long term. The results that you create from this book will last because the program is designed in a way so it fits into your normal everyday routine.
This is great news for me because I love to eat and I tend to think of restriction and being unable to eat the foods I love when I think about a diet. The Always Eat After 7 PM plan consists of: The 14-day Acceleration Phase to kick-start the program and see rapid results, The Main Phase where you’ll learn exactly which foods to eat when in order to achieve your weight-loss goals, The Lifestyle Phase to keep the weight off for good. This plan gives me motivation to continue on and develop those new and healthy lifestyle habits.
Science proves eating at night is OK
More good news I learned from the book is that “Research shows that the average person’s metabolic rate is no different during sleep than during the day. In short, your metabolism doesn’t slow down at night. Nor does your body store fat at the end of the day. Whether it’s 8 am or 8 pm, you use food for energy the same way.” I can eat late at night??? Count me in for that. Who doesn’t love an occasional late-night snack?
Another fun fact: “Late-night eating also curbs calorie intake the next day. In a four-week study, dieters added a snack to their daily regimen 90 minutes after dinner every night, and check this out: late-night eaters ate an average of 397 fewer calories per day.”
The author of the book, Joel Marion, is a six-time best-selling author and when asked what was different about this book compared to others he said: “Although many of the concepts are similar, the biggest difference is that you don’t have to deprive yourself of your favorite foods. You don’t have to deal with the burden of eating every few hours. And you don’t have to skip the carbs at dinnertime or avoid eating before bed.“
This again drives home the point I care about and that is being able to maintain on this program because I don’t have to deprive myself of my favorite foods.
This was the most surprising thing to me because it goes against what I’ve been taught over the years about a healthy diet. Joel also talked about this being a surprising discovery. When he was asked about what the most surprising discovery was when he was researching the scientific data for the diet he said “That almost everything my college education and certifications taught me was NOT grounded in published scientific research.”
